| Biography of interviewed (Biographie de l’interviewé) | Antanas Kybartas was born on August 4, 1943 in the village of Stanaičiai, Lithuania. One night in July 1947, Lithuanian nationalist partisans arrived, armed, at the door of the family residence to ask for shelter. A shootout ensued between these partisans and Soviet soldiers. Following this episode, soldiers interrogated the family, who is accused of helping the partisans. They are deported to Siberia in December 1947. The family was first taken near Yurginskoe, in the Tyumen region, where they lived for two years. They were then relocated to the nearby Verhkamenka forestry operation, where they were allowed to build a family house. In 1951, NKVD men searched the family house and arrested Antanas' father. Antanas Kybartas later discovered that his father had been the subject of purges related to the North Korean War, which had been conducted in several towns around the Trans-Siberian Railway. He had been imprisoned in Tyumen and shot in 1952. Antanas and his mother returned to Lithuania in 1958, to their house. Antanas Kybartas perfected his Lithuanian and entered a kolkhoz. He became a Komsomol and later held the position of secretary of this organization in this kolkhoz. In 1963, he finished high school and decided to move to Vilnius to learn computer science at the Technical College of Electromechanics, where he became a teacher before specializing in the energy sector. In 2009, Antanas Kybartas still lived in Vilnius, where he was a member of the Council of Former Deportees of Lithuania. |
| Biography of interviewed in French (Biographie de l’interviewé en français) | Antanas Kybartas est né le 4 août 1943 dans le village de Stanaičiai, en Lituanie. Une nuit de juillet 1947, des partisans nationalistes lituaniens arrivent, armés, à la porte du domicile familial et demandent le couvert. S‘en suit une fusillade entre ces partisans et des soldats soviétiques. A la suite de cet épisode, des militaires interrogent la famille, qui est accusée d‘avoir aidé les partisans. Ils sont déportés en Sibérie en décembre 1947. D‘abord emmenés dans la région de Tioumen, proche de Yurginskoe, pendant deux ans. Ensuite, on les déplace non loin, proche de l‘exploitation forestière de Verhkamenka, où ils sont autorisés à construire leur maison. En 1951, des hommes du NKVD fouillent cette maison et arrêtent le père d‘Antanas. Sans nouvelles de son père, Antanas Kybartas découvrira par la suite que ce dernier a été victime de purges liées à la guerre de Corée, qui ont touché plusieurs localités proches du transsibérien. Il est emprisonné dans un camp près de Tioumen avant d‘être fusillé en 1952. Antanas Kybartas et sa mère retournent en Lituanie en 1958 et y récupèrent leur maison. Il y perfectionne son lituanien et entre dans un kolkhoze. Devenu komsomol, il occupera par la suite le poste de secrétaire de cette organisation dans ce kolkhoze. En 1963, il termine le lycée et décide de déménager à Vilnius afin d‘y apprendre le métier d‘informaticien au lycée technique d‘électromécanique, où il deviendra professeur avant de se spécialiser dans le secteur de l’énergie. En 2009, Antanas Kybartas vivait toujours à Vilnius, où il était membre du Conseil des Anciens Déportés de Lituanie. |
